Wally Lake Fest 2015: Register Now For These Events

 

Hawley, PA. July 27, 2015. The 6th Annual Wally Lake Fest is shaping up to be non-stop, action-packed fun August 28th through the 30th. With brand new events and returning favorites on the itinerary, this is a summer celebration that brings people of all ages to beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack, which is the third largest lake in the state, and the surrounding Lake Region.

This is a unique part of the Pocono Mountains with no shortage of things to do including boating, fishing, swimming and parasailing on the lake as well as hiking, antiquing, dining, shopping, exploring and sight-seeing around every corner. The festival brings all of these elements together and adds even more excitement to the mix with more lake activities from a boat parade and sailboat rides to live music right on the lake on top of a floating stage and canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard demonstrations.

Some events require advance registration such as the Boat Parade, Tour de Towpath Bike Ride, and the Motorcycle “Ride for the Lake.” Wally Lake Fest is exactly a month away so sign up now to secure your spot!

The Boat Parade is one of the most anticipated events during Wally Lake Fest as people get creative and decorate their boats in a variety of fun themes and styles. The parade takes place on Saturday, August 29th. Participants enter their boat to win prizes for “best dressed.” The first prize winner receives $1,000. Trophies and other prizes are also awarded.  Registration is free and anyone interested in entering should call (570) 226-4518.  Spectators can watch these decked out boats as they parade around the lake. The parade route is mapped out in the Wally Lake Fest brochure. Boats assemble at Shuman’s Point around 11:30 a.m. and arrive at the Tafton Dike at approximately 2 p.m.

For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the Tour de Towpath Bike Ride may be the event for you! It’s another activity people enjoy participating in. On Sunday, August 30th, the Tour de Towpath runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bike ride begins at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center and continues along a beautiful route to the historic Zane Grey Museum on the scenic Lackawaxen River.  This is an approximate 16 to 32 mile road ride. Cyclists can choose a self-guided ride or leave with the group at 10 a.m. Shuttle service is available from the museum or people can ride back. Shuttle service is $10. Bike rentals are available for $35. People can pre-register or sign up the day of the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register, call (570) 352-3444.

See beautiful views of the Big Lake from a motorcycle while supporting an important cause! The Motorcycle “Ride for the Lake” takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants are asked to meet at the Wallenpaupack Area High School for an expanded 41 mile motorcycle ride around the lake. The event benefits the non-profit Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District, which studies the lake and protects it from pollution. Wally Lake Fest 2015: The Place for Outdoor Adventure

Hawley, PA. July 16, 2015. Wally Lake Fest is an annual event celebrating beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack and the surrounding lake region. Haiti . The last weekend in August promises endless fun for people of all ages with exciting activities and events scheduled throughout August 28th through the 30th.

Since Wally Lake Fest honors the “big” lake’s natural scenic beauty and the many recreational opportunities it provides from boating to biking, there will be an abundance of outdoor adventures residents and visitors can participate in.  The great thing about these activities is people don’t have to be athletes to take part in them because there is something for everyone with all skill levels. The most important thing is to have a blast while doing them. Some of these fun outdoor adventures happen right on the lake or beach, while others venture farther out into the lake’s surrounding area.

Whether bike riding or enjoying sailboat rides, outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to three days of enjoying all that Wally Lake Fest has to offer. There will be a Motorcycle “Ride for the Lake” with a 41 mile ride around the lake, Canoe, Stand Up Paddleboard and Kayak Demos with on and in-water trials, Wallypalooza (formerly called Battle of the Bands) with live music ON the lake on top of a floating stage, Sailboat Rides, a Sailboat Regatta Race featuring the Paupack Sailing Club, a Boat, Watercraft and Outdoor Show, an Open Market Fair, a Boat Parade, a Tour De Towpath Bike Ride, and much more!

Wally Lake Fest 2015: Returning Events

Preparations for this year’s Wally Lake Fest are in full swing. The highly anticipated three-day festival from August 28-30 celebrates ultimate fun on beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack as well as in and around the Lake Region with activities and events for people of all ages from boat parades to craft shows and ice cream socials to kayak demonstrations.

This year marks Wally Lake Fest’s sixth year and it’s now widely known as the biggest festival celebrating the Big Lake and the tail end of the summer season.  Residents and visitors flock to the shoreline and glistening waters to participate in the many scheduled water activities and also have a blast on dry land. There are many returning events people look forward to including the open market fair, the boat, watercraft and outdoor show, live music ON the lake, sailboat rides, the boat parade, the tour de towpath bike ride and many others.

On Friday, Wally Lake Fest officially kicks off in a celebratory way as the local restaurants, pubs and other establishments feature a variety of live entertainment including The Settlers Inn, The Boat House Restaurant, Ehrhardt’s Pub, and The Ritz Theater. Live music is also scheduled for the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, The Open Market Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center as local artisans and crafters showcase their wares and handmade products from maple syrup to soaps.

Both days, the Boat, Watercraft and Outdoor Expo at the Wallenpaupack Area High School allow boat enthusiasts the opportunity to view beautiful boats, watercraft and ATVs.  People can enjoy vendors and food stands in between browsing.  In addition, many local marinas display some of their products. The show is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One of the most popular Wally Lake Fest events is the sailboat rides, which are offered on Saturday. People who always wanted to sail but may not know how to themselves can experience this thrilling sport at Lighthouse Harbor Marina from 1 to 4 p.m.  The lake is appreciated in all its glory as the wind whips the sails and the boats glide through the glistening water.  The sailboats depart approximately every hour for a one hour sail.  Members of the Paupack Sailing Club enthusiastically volunteer their time, boats and skill to give people a one-of-a-kind experience on the lake. Reservations are required and start on July 31st at 10 a.m.   Call the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center at (570) 226-2141. Voice messages are not accepted. Boats fill up quickly so be sure to reserve your spot early!  A $5 donation is asked, which will support the American Red Cross.

The boat parade is another boating event people love whether they enter and decorate their own boat or watch from the shoreline.  Boat registration is free and entrants win fantastic prizes for the best “dressed” boats with the first place winner receiving $1,000. Have fun and get creative! The parade begins around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and spectators can see the boats go past the Dike at approximately 2 p.m.

A returning crowd pleaser is the Battle of the Bands. This event debuted two years ago and was a big hit. On Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., two bands perform right on the water on top of a floating stage near the Dike and Visitors Center. The bands scheduled are Eric Rudy & Friends and Barely Covered. People are invited to drop anchor and listen on the lake from their boats, sit on the Dike while soaking up the sun and tunes or stroll along the walking trail, which spans a mile and a half from the Dike to the dam.

On Sunday, the Tour de Towpath Bike Ride takes off from the Visitors Center for a beautiful 16-32 mile road ride to the Zane Grey Museum along the Lackawaxen River. Shuttle service is provided from Zane Grey or cyclists can bike back.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Visitors Center. People can pre-register or sign up the day of the event.  Bike rentals are available for $35. The shuttle service is $10.

These favorite events and more are making a comeback for another weekend of Wally Lake Fest fun. Be sure not to miss out on these exciting activities!

Wally Lake Fest: August 22-24, 2014

Hawley, PA. July 7, 2014. The highly anticipated fifth Annual Wally Lake Fest is a little over a month away and the excitement is mounting for this three day festival celebrating summer fun on Lake Wallenpaupack and around its shoreline with a multitude of activities from free sailboat rides and a boat parade to an open market fair and  a tour de towpath bike ride.

Wally Lake Fest takes place August 22nd through the 24th and several new events have been added to the itinerary this year.

This year’s Wally Lake Fest is shaping up to be the best yet with brand new additions such as the SUP Yoga Demos, Glass Stretching and Glass Bead Making, Paupack Blueberry Farm Tours, American Red Cross “Call to Action” Scavenger Hunt, Schuman’s Point Nature Hike, additional shuttle busses and stops and even more live music.

The SUP Yoga Demos take place Friday and Sunday morning from 7 to 8:30 a.m. on the East Shore Lodging Dock.  Start the day by taking your yoga practice on the water for an invigorating experience.

The Glass Stretching and Bead Making is a free event, offered all three days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at B. Madigan Jewelry and Gifts on Main Street in Hawley.  Enjoy watching glass turned into beads and other items in a Victorian setting.

If you love sweet, local blueberries, you won’t want to miss the Paupack Blueberry Farm Tours on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The blueberry farm is located on Gumbletown Road in Paupack, a short drive away from the lake.  Visit the farm and browse the gift shop and café for baked goods, homemade jams, jellies, ice cream and blueberry-themed gifts (among others). Be sure to sample the Homemade Blueberry Muffin Lake Fest Special.

Also on Saturday, the American Red Cross “Call to Action” Scavenger Hunt promises to be an exciting addition for families and individuals. The Hunt is held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Claim a unique prize after visiting four of five stations (Gresham’s Landing, Palmyra Township Public Beach, Wallenpaupack Area High School, Hawley Silk Mill, Lock House 31). The prizes are given at a post event in downtown Hawley from 5 to 6 p.m. Each booth focuses on a Red Cross preparedness message and the idea is to collect the message and move on to the next station. Donations are welcome.

Outdoor lovers will want to participate in the Schuman’s Point Nature Hike on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Crazy Fingers Restaurant and Sawmill Cycles team up to provide hikers with a bottle of water and instructions guiding hikers along the point and back. Schuman’s Point is located off Route 590 and is a scenic three-mile loop with views of the lake.

Other places offering live music this year are the Hotel Belvidere with the Roaring 20s style dining and music, live music yoga experience at Roots Yoga Studio with ambient music provided by local musician Jae Merrill, and the Lakeside Beach Bash at John’s Italian Restaurant on Route 507, featuring live music,  happy hour specials giveaways and raffles.

Newer returning favorites include the Family Activity Spot at Gresham’s Landing and Battle of the Bands.  The kids love the Family Activity Spot, which takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both days, there will be a Pirate Ship Bounce House, face painting, kids tattoos, balloons and a variety of local discounts (by flores). On Sunday only, enjoy complimentary ice cream sandwiches from 1 to 2 p.m. at Gresham’s Ice Cream Shoppe.

Battle of the Bands is a popular crowd pleaser. This event debuted two years ago and was a big hit. On Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., several bands perform right on the water on top of a floating stage near the Dike and Visitors Center. The bands scheduled are Blue London, Tribes and Merchants of Groove. People are invited to drop anchor and listen on the lake from their boats, lay out on the Dike while soaking up the sun and tunes, or rent a tube from Northeast Wilderness Experience and watch from the beach.  Tube rentals are available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For a half day rental, the tubes are $15 and for the full day, $25.  People can also listen to Battle of the Bands from their own kayak or stand up paddleboard (SUP), provided by Wallenpaupack Scenic Boat Tour and Boat Rentals. The equipment is $10 for an hour and is based on availability.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, The PPL Dam and Power House Tours at the PPL Environmental Learning Center run continuously throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. These guided tours allow people an in-depth look into how this hydroelectric plant operates.  The Dam tours are only offered during Wally Lake Fest, so anyone interested in learning about the lake’s important role in generating electricity is encouraged to check it out.
