2015 Wally Lake Fest Planning Underway

Hawley PA Lake Fest

The committee has reconvened after a LONG and painful winter (right?! I mean, -35 degrees windchill… it was like an episode of Ice Road Truckers for the better part of February!).  As the doors and windows were sealed shut to keep the frost from coming in for the past 5 months, we see the first inklings of springs upon us.  Thawed lakes.  Rushing streams. The majestic Robin returns.  The mighty Bald Eagle hatches. Wally Lake Fest planning gets under way.

We’re hitting the ground running.

And we’re calling ALL SPONSORS and EVENTS to hop aboard.  Click the links below to download our forms.

As always, feel free to call or write with any questions, concerns, suggestions, stories, or jokes… we love jokes.

Wally Lake Fest 2012: Returning Events

A Poconos Festival Unlike Any Other!

Preparations for this year’s Wally Lake Fest are in full swing. The highly anticipated three-day festival from August 24th through the 26th celebrates fun on beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack and in and around the Lake Region with activities and events for people of all ages from boat parades to craft shows and ice cream socials to kayak demonstrations.
This year marks Wally Lake Fest’s third year so while it is still a new event, it is one that is unique and now widely known as the biggest festival celebrating the Big Lake and the tail end of the summer season.  Residents and visitors flock to the sandy shores and glistening waters to participate in the many scheduled water activities and have fun on dry land. There are many returning events people can look forward to including the open market fair, the boat, watercraft and Seadoo show, live music, tours of the Dam, free sailboat rides, the boat parade, the tour de towpath bike ride and many others.
On Friday, Wally Lake Fest officially kicks off in a celebratory way as the local restaurants, pubs and other establishments feature a variety of live entertainment including The Settlers Inn, The Boat House Restaurant, Gresham’s Chop House, Ehrhardt’s Pub and The Ritz Theater. Live music is also scheduled for the rest of the weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, The Open Market Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center where local artisans and crafters showcase their wares and handmade products from maple syrup to soaps.
Also on Saturday and Sunday, The PPL Dam and Power House Tours at the PPL Environmental Learning Center run continuously throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. These guided tours allow people an in-depth look into how this hydroelectric plant operates.
On Saturday, the Boat, Watercraft and ATV Show is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wallenpaupack Area High School. Here, people can view beautiful boats, watercraft and ATVs.  In addition, Lighthouse Harbor Marina, 1st Klas Marina and The Boat Shop will have products on display.
Another Saturday event gives people who always wanted to sail but may not know how to themselves the opportunity to do so with free sailboat rides at Lighthouse Harbor Marina from 1 to 4 p.m.  The lake is appreciated in all its glory as the wind whips the sails and the boats glide through the glistening water.
The boat parade is another boating event people look forward to whether they enter and decorate their own boat or watch from the shoreline.  Boat registration is free and entrants win prizes for the best “dressed” boats (by rudy). The parade begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The rain date is Sunday, August 26th.
On Sunday, the Tour de Towpath Bike Ride takes off from the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center at 11 a.m. This 17 mile one-way, 34 mile round-trip bicycle ride continues down to the Lackawaxen River. Registration begins at 9 a.m. For those who don’t have their own bike, rentals are provided and people are asked to reserve a bike before noon on August 24th by calling (570) 352-3444. In addition, a shuttle service is provided for people who only want to bike the one-way trip. People are asked to pack a lunch for the afternoon.
These favorite events and more are making a comeback for another weekend of Wally Lake Fest fun. Be sure not to miss out on these exciting activities!

Downtown Hawley Partnership Announces Wally Lake Fest August 26 – 28, 2011

Kayaing on Lake Wallenpaupack
Wally Lake Fest Kayak Demo

Kayaking Demos on Lake Wallen Pauapck

The Downtown Hawley Partnership is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Wally Lake Fest. Last year’s event was a huge success! Area businesses had one of the busiest days of the summer; parking lots were full, the first Open Market Fair at the Visitors Center was packed with happy shoppers, the boat show was well attended and there were plenty of happy faces at the ice cream social in Hawley.

This year’s festival will feature events located throughout the Lake Region including the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center, Downtown Hawley, area businesses and on the lake.  The committee’s goal is to create another weekend full of events that embrace the pristine natural beauty and fun atmosphere of the lake as well as provide opportunities for local business to showcase their products and services, stimulate tourism and strengthen the community.

Friday night will kick-off with a music tour at the area restaurants. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a celebration of talent at the Open Market Fair at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center.  The Market will feature independent art, music, food and design. The Boat Show will once again be taking place in the Wallenpaupack Area High School parking lot on Saturday and a breathtaking bike ride will leave from the Visitors Center on Sunday morning taking eager bikers down to the Lackawaxen River.

Lake Fest will also host a variety of outdoor experiences taking place along the shore and across the Lake Wallenpaupack Nature Trail. Visitors will learn about kayaking, canoeing, boating safety, sailing, the PPL Dam and more.

The grand Boat Parade, a Wallenpaupack favorite of years past, will be enhanced from last year to seek greater participation.  Individuals are encouraged to decorate their boats and enter into the judged parade on Saturday.

On Saturday night, people can visit the quaint Downtown Hawley to shop and dine at some of the best restaurants in the region.

For more information on sponsorships, hosting an event, decorating your boat for the parade, keeping your business open late on Saturday night, a booth at the Open Market Fair and/or facilitating an outdoor experience, contact the Wally Lake Fest committee at 570.226.2141 or info@wallylakefest.com.

2011 Sponsorship Details

Sponsorships for the 2nd Annual Wally Lake Fest are now set and packed full of value.  The Lake Fest committee went back to the drawing board to answer the question “how can we make our sponsorships even more valuable to our sponsors?”.  The answer became quickly clear after seeing just how successful the first annual Wally Lake Fest was.  Thousands of people passed through the lake region of Hawley Pennsylvania over the course of the weekend and it was a buzz across the media.

The Lake Fest committee has decided to up the anti in the higher priced sponsorships categories, for example the “Presenting Sponsor” for $2,000 will be included as a headling on all marketing promotions, including radio.  This is a bargain for any company looking to leverage their marketing spend.  Wally Lake Fest is looking to commit nearly $10,000 in this year’s marketing budget and the presenting sponsors (limited available) will be at the top of every outlet the Lake Fest can be found.  This is a big upgrade over 2010 where you’d only find the sponsors on the Lake Fest brochure and poster.

In addition to the media inclusion, Wally Lake Fest has developed a website (as you can obviously see!) in which sponsors will be able to link an ad on the homepage back to their site.  The homepage slots are reserved for Presenting and Platinum sponsorships, all other sponsors will be showcased on the sponsorship’s page with a link back to the sponsors site.

Lastly, Presenting and Platinum sponsors will be showcased on the front cover of this year’s brochure, which will looks to be a huge upgrade itself.  This year’s brochure will be twice the size of last year’s with a fold out map of all the activities; including, like last year, a detailed area map of the Lake Wallenpaupack overlook and the new Nature Trail but new this year a detailed navigable map of downtown Hawley, PA.  A concerted effort is being made by the committee this year to bring the Friday and Saturday night traffic downtown for some spectacular events and late night shopping.

For more information on how to become a sponsor, click here (pdf), or email us at info@wallylakefest.com.

Sunday Events of Wally Lake Fest ~ A 2010 Review

Wally Lake Fest concluded on Sunday, it was a bit quieter this day but those who came out enjoyed themselves again.  The two headliners for the day were the Art Extravaganza and the Tour de Towpath!  The Art Extravaganza took place at Ehrhardt’s Restaurant banquet hall, many artists from the entire northeast region came out to showcase their work.  The event was focused around a large art auction which raised a great amount of money and allowed beautiful pieces of art to trade at their expected value.

The Tour de Towpath was exceptional.  Sponsored and hosted by the Northeast Wilderness Experience, the ride started at the Visitor’s Center and traveled down some back roads finally landing on the Towpath Road that tightly hugs the curves of the rolling Lackawaxen River.  The ride ended near the Roebling Bridge in Lackawaxen and spanned the better part of 7 hours.  Riders were offered the opportunity to ride one way and pick up a shuttle at the end to bring them back to the Visitor’s Center.  It was another gorgeous day and the 40+ riders got a great workout and marveled in the beauty of the Lackwaxen.

The end came too soon for the weekend, there were too many events for some to sample it all, but on the other hand there could have been more.  After polling some of the patrons over the course of the weekend, the Wally Lake Fest committee was jazzed about planning the 2nd annual.  This year the committee expects even more participation from the community in support, events and sponsorship all enhancing the overall nature of Wally Lake Fest and strengthening the weekend as a major summer event for Lake Wallenpaupack and the Pocono Mountains.

Last Year’s Wally Lake Fest Events ~ Saturday

Lake Fest Open Market Fair

Saturday of Lake Wallenpaupack’s WALLY LAKE FEST was an outstanding day, pure, unadulterated, punch you in your jaw, off-the-hook, FUN!  There was literally something for everyone.  It’s hard to imagine how this year is going to top it, but it’s a guarantee.  There were so many events on Saturday I can’t even recap them all… so here are some of the highlights.

Kayaking on Lake Wallenpaupack

There were two major draws that ran all day, the Boat & Watercraft Show located at Lake Wallenpaupack Area High School and the Open Market Fair held at the Visitor Center.  The Boat Show was great, the Boat Shop, A&D Marine, Rusty Palmer’s and Lake Fest presenting sponsor Lighthouse Harbor Marina all brought some of the finest watercraft on the market to show off.  There was some serious buzz about those boats, like a hand polished 2011 black Cobalt – wow.

The Open Market Fair filled the grounds surrounding the Visitor’s Center with vendors of all shapes and sizes, kettle corn, beautiful photography, antiques, clothing, artistic candles, art work and much more.  The center was packed!  Had to be at least a couple thousand people pass through over the course of the day.  The backdrop to the fair was mighty Lake Wallenpaupack, the Palmyra Township Beach was full of sunbathers, kayakers and kite fliers!  The new 2 mile nature trail was alive with families and friends of all ages, walking from the Scenic Boat Tours and Gresham’s Landing on the Overlook over to the free Sail Boat Rides, passed the high school finally ending up at the PPL Environmental Center for a tour of the dam!

While the boat parade may have lacked some participation it over compensated with spectators and everyone who was around had a great time!  After the winners were announced it was time to wrap up the day in downtown Hawley with an ice cream social and a great presentation by the high school marching band.  Once again the restaurant’s were humming with many, happy, lake fest goers.
